COURT STREET VILLAGE NON-PROFIT
Court Street Village Non-Profit (CSVNP) pioneered the use of low income housing tax credits in the State of Michigan and raised $20,000,000 to construct two low income senior housing apartment buildings, completed in 1990 and 1993. Since 1986, CSVNP has been awarded over $3,200,000 in federal CDBG and HOME grants to refurbish homes, apartments, and commercial buildings. A Neighborhood Empowerment Program was formed in 1994 by CSVNP to assist the four neighborhoods surrounding downtown Flint, Michigan to improve residents' quality of life through various projects and events. Today, CSVNP is focused on improving and stabilizing two downtown Flint neighborhoods; Central Park and Fairfield Village.
CSVNP was the first organization in Michigan to use low income tax credits to construct low income housing. The campus is comprised of an east and west building. The 800 East Court Street apartments opened in 1990 and has 150 units for seniors 55 and older. It offers affordable rent on one and two bedroom apartments. The 700 West Court Street apartments opened in 1993, with 106 units for seniors. It was open to all income levels- low, moderate, and market rate. The apartment buildings were sold in 2011 to a local charitable foundation.
